Years Teaching Overall: 7
Years Teaching at Saint Martin’s: 5
Currently teaching: 5th grade
Proudest teaching moment: “Last year, my class was inspired by the Scholastic News coverage of the presidential election. We decided to host our own mock election for our entire school. We researched the election process, transformed our entire room with individual voting booths, and created kid-friendly ballots. On Election Day, my students arrived to school early dressed in their patriotic gear, one even as Uncle Sam. The entire class was fascinated during the mock election, particularly during the vote counting process. I loved seeing democracy come to life right in our own classroom.”
Teaching Philosophy: “It has always been my personal mission to understand each student’s individual interests and abilities in order to bring out each child’s best self. I want them to leave my classroom confident, fearless students who are unafraid of challenges. I hope all of my students, present and past, feel comfortable coming to me with any struggle in or outside of the classroom. Most importantly, I hope my students always know I will go to great lengths to help them succeed.”
Toughest challenge facing educators: “Educators are constantly challenged to use technology to create effective lessons for their students. However, technology trends are constantly changing and it is important to prepare learners for the world outside of the classroom. I am currently enrolled in an educational technology program and I love incorporating the technology resources from my classes into my teaching each day.”
